About me – Lars-Henrik Roth
I’m Lars-Henrik Roth – photographer, hiker, and founder of Wanderspezi – the Photohiker.
After many years of responsibility and leadership, I found my way back to creativity – outdoors, where silence and light became my teachers. The camera became my compass, guiding me toward what has always moved me most: wonder, stillness, and a sense of meaning.
What drives me
For me, photohiking is more than carrying a camera on a trail.
It’s an attitude – mindful, light-footed, and open to whatever the day offers. I follow the light, not the calendar. Good images are born not where you plan them, but where you are truly present.
I carry only what’s necessary: sometimes a full pack into the hills, sometimes just one camera. What matters isn’t the motif – it’s the moment.
Wanderspezi – the Photohiker
In German, Wanderspezi is a word for a trusted hiking buddy – the kind of friend you share a rope with in the mountains, or silence on a trail. It stands for companionship, trust, and the joy of seeing the world side by side.
With Wanderspezi – the Photohiker, I created a space for a slower kind of photography – authentic, reduced, inspired by movement. It’s about finding beauty in what’s near, not in what’s far away.
“Where time, light, and place fall into harmony.”
That’s my guiding principle – and the soul of Wanderspezi.
My path
I started photographing as a teenager, but life took me elsewhere for a long time. Career and family came first – yet the longing to create never left. Many years later, I returned to photography with patience, experience, and a deep curiosity for light.
My favorite regions lie in the Rhineland, the Eifel hills, and the Bergisches Land – places where paths tell stories and light shapes the land.
Presence & projects
My images are regularly shown on Flickr, often featured in the international Explore gallery. On Picfair, some have been selected as Picfair Stars. I share my photohikes and equipment advice on Komoot and on the blog at photohikers.de – combining routes, stories, and photography along the way. I am a proud member of Nature First – The Alliance for Responsible Nature Photography. This commitment to mindful, respectful photography in nature guides all my work: to see consciously, to leave no trace, to show nature as it truly is.
